Reporting a death

The death of a loved one is always a very difficult time. If a member of the Scheme has passed away, the earlier you can inform us, the easier it will be to put affairs in order. We've listed out details of the process below, to help you along.

Getting In Touch

If the deceased was still actively contributing to the Scheme, their employer will contact the Administration team and help the next of kin through the process.

Otherwise, to report the death of a UKAEA Pension Scheme member, the Spouse, next of kin or personal representative should contact the administration team using these details:

tel: 0333 207 5961

email: ukaeapensions@equiniti.com

What We Will Need To Know

We will need to know the deceased's membership number or National Insurance Number.

If emailing, please also state their date of death, your relationship to them, your own contact details (including your address) and whether there is a surviving spouse or dependant children.

What We Will Do

We will respond and request any certificates or other documents required.

Upon receipt of these, we'll return the original certificates, contact the Manager of the Scheme to seek discretion for any benefits that may be due, and if there are any, advise dependants of these benefits, including any lump sum.

If the deceased was in receipt of a pension under the Scheme, we will suspend pension payments, advise of any overpayments, and if applicable set up any dependant pensions.
